Run Cycles

Hanna Barbera rocks. I loved watching all the various cartoons as a kid and I still love them today. Sometimes I like to spend time going frame by frame looking at walk cycles, run cycles whatever.

So I noticed on a lot of the characters there were only three different positions used in a run cycle. Very fast but effective. I've been using about seven which I thought was a small amount. I also noticed that the bodies including the arms were stationary only the legs were hauling butt.

So below are two samples. One in the Hanna Barbera vain and one done with a little more bounce but still with three leg positions.

It's Been A While...

Well, it has been a while since I posted anything, but it's good because that means I've been busy. :)

At any rate, I'm currently working on an animated music video for a children's music act. Below are a number of looping tests of most of the band and a bunch of secondary characters that will be dancing to the music. The animations are done at 24fps, but I noticed that the internet slows them down a bit. oh well. :)

I also put an image of a background idea. Still needs work, but it's coming along.

So far this has been a fun project, but I think the hardest yet funnest part is putting all the elements together and editing it.

2006 Recap

Well, 2006 was a good year for me in cartooning. I did a number of freelance jobs, was able to incorporate a lot of my character designs and modest animations at my day job. I took part in a number of online challenges and made a number of new contacts and friends as a result. My personal projects have been going steady and I hope to do more of those in 2007.

At any rate below is a grouping of random sketches which dont even scratch the surface of a very large stack of drawings I have.

Thanks to all that visted the blog but more importantly thanks to those that gave me encouragement and constructive criticism over this last year.
